Effective November 3, 2026
The short version: we collect what's needed to send invitations and track RSVPs, we never sell it, and mobile numbers are used only to text event messages.
1. Information we collect
From hosts
- Account details: your email address and the name you choose. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile photo from Google. You can optionally add a mobile number to receive text alerts when guests reply.
- Event details: title, date, time, location, schedule of functions, notes, RSVP deadline, guest limits, questions for guests, card wording and style, your time zone, gift registry links, potluck list, online meeting link, and wax seal wording, and any invitation design or photo you upload.
- Co-hosts you add: their email addresses. We email them an invitation to co-host your event.
- Guest lists you add: guests' names, email addresses, phone numbers and optional group labels (such as a family name).
- Your contacts: people you save to your address book (name, email, phone) to invite again. Only you can see them.
- Purchase records, such as which credit package you bought and when. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
From guests
- Your reply (yes, no or maybe, including for each function of a multi-day event), number of additional guests, dietary notes, answers to any questions the host asks, and any message you write to the host.
- When you open your invitation (first and most recent time, and how many times), which the host and co-hosts can see.
- Potluck items you sign up to bring.
- Texts you send in reply to an invitation, where the host offers RSVP by text.
- Photos you add to an event's shared photo album, with your name.
- If the host uses door check-in: when you arrived and how many people were with you.
- The email or phone number you enter to open your invitation, which we check against the host's guest list.
- Delivery records for invitations and reminders sent to you, such as "delivered", "read" (WhatsApp) or "failed", and whether you replied STOP.
Contact messages you send us through the Contact page.
Technical data: basic server logs (such as IP address and request time) used for security and troubleshooting.
2. How we use information
- To run MakeAGuest: create events, send invitations, reminders and RSVP confirmations, and show hosts their guests' replies.
- To process purchases and keep credit balances accurate.
- To keep accounts and invitations secure and to prevent spam and abuse.
- To respond to your messages and requests.
3. Mobile numbers, text and WhatsApp messages
Phone numbers are used only to send the invitations and event messages described in our SMS terms, and, for hosts who add their own number, alerts about guest replies. A guest receives texts or WhatsApp messages only after the host confirms the guest agreed to them, and any guest can reply STOP to opt out.
We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or text-messaging opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Numbers are shared only with the messaging providers that deliver messages on our behalf.
6. How long we keep information
- Event, guest and RSVP information is kept while the host's account exists. When a host deletes an event, its guest list, replies, shared album photos, check-in records and uploaded design are deleted too.
- Purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting and legal obligations.
- Contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle your request.
7. Your choices and rights
- Guests: you can change your reply at any time while RSVPs are open, reply STOP to texts, and ask the host to remove you, or ask us directly.
- Hosts: you can edit or delete your events and guests at any time.
- Anyone: you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or close your account. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law.
To make a request, use our Contact page and choose "Privacy or data request" or "Delete my data". We may need to confirm your identity first.
8. Security
We protect data in transit with encryption (HTTPS). Invitation links use long random codes, and guests must also match the email or phone the invite was sent to. Sign-in codes and links expire after 10 minutes and work only once, and sign-in sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify affected users of a breach as required by law.
9. Children
MakeAGuest isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. Events about children, such as a child's birthday, are created by adults. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Changes and contact
We'll post any updates to this policy here and change the effective date. If changes are significant, we'll let you know through the app or by email.
